Industrial Landscapes

The series starts from the post-industrial landscape as a field of research — forms left behind in deindustrialized areas of the city, many of them located right at its geographic and cultural center. These forms carry the trace of society, with all its implications: warehouses, structures, architectural fragments left to decay, understood as what was deemed useless and abandoned through a series of decisions. Unlike Tomberoane, where waste appeared as a concrete object in public space, here it becomes a conceptual principle — what is left behind takes the shape of an entire landscape, not an isolated object.

The works made during this period follow two distinct directions, developed in parallel. One is expressively tense: broad gesture, rapid brushwork, strong contrast, an image built closer to conflict than to observation. The other is essentialized — an open palette, transparent, almost watercolor-like gesture, where the landscape dissolves toward abstraction, keeping only a horizon or a trace of recognizable structure. The two directions do not exclude each other; they function as poles of the same research — the extremes between which the series moves over its five years.

Visually, the series continues the compositional and contrast research begun in Wasted and Tomberoane, but shifts the focus from interior/street to landscape — testing how far an image can be reduced or, conversely, tensioned, while keeping its starting point recognizable.
